Pastor Jeri Fields

The Reverend Jeri Fields comes to FUPCDC upon completing her tenure as the Interim Pastor at the United Parish of Bowie in Maryland.  She is a career change pastor who was ordained in December 2002 and installed as the Associate Pastor at Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church the following month. While in high school, she sensed God was calling her into ministry; but resisted thoughts of ordained ministry. Thankfully, God was patient and persistent with her, affording her some amazing opportunities that prepared her for a call to serve as a pastor.

Pastor Jeri earned her undergraduate degree from Union College in Barbourville, KY. It was there she became involved with Appalachian Volunteers and discovered a heart for mission and outreach. Following graduation, she went to Europe before moving to Virginia where she embarked upon a fulfilling career in education here in Prince William County. During her tenure as an educator, she received her MA from UVA with an emphasis in Learning Disabilities. Subsequently, she earned certification in the areas of school psychology, as a visiting teacher/school social worker, and in administration and supervision. Unbeknown to her at the time, God was preparing her for ordained ministry.

While working at Hylton High School, Pastor Jeri earned her MDiv (Masters of Divinity) from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC. During her last year in seminary, she participated in a deaf culture immersion experience in which she learned to sign numbers by playing BINGO with individuals institutionalized due to various handicapping conditions, participated in a Bible study with inmates at the then maximum security facility in Jessup, Maryland, and assisted in signing a worship service. During this experience, she stayed with a woman who had been deaf since birth. It was quite an adventure.

A life changing experience was joining Biblical storyteller Dennis Dewey on a 10 day trip to the Holy Land. Yes, you can expect to hear about some of her experiences in sermons.  Pastor Jeri lives in Alexandria, VA. She believes it is important to give back to the community where one lives and does so as a Chaplain at INOVA Mount Vernon Hospital and with the Fairfax County Police Department. She is actively involved in disaster preparedness and helps train others to become Fairfax County Community Chaplains who will provide a ministry of presence when man-made or natural disasters occur.

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Pastor Jeri grew up in Northern KY. She enjoys visiting family in Sacramento, Savannah, and the Cincinnati area. Spending times with friends is important. She also enjoys listening to classical and Christian music, going for walks, photography, watching sports, and playing mindless computer games…well, not all of them are mindless. She is a night owl, so don’t be surprised if some emails are posted in the wee hours of the morning.

Pastor Jeri looks forward to walking this next phase of your faith journey with you.
