Dana Van Slyke
Dana Van Slyke has served as Director of the First United Presbyterian Church of Dale City Chancel Choir since 2011. Under her direction, the Chancel choir has joined with the Notes of Salvation Praise Band to perform an annual Cantata at Christmas and /or Easter. The chancel choir also assists in leading the traditional worship service weekly at 8:30 am.
Ms. Van Slyke has taught in the Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) for 25 years. The past 23, she has served as Choral Director at Herndon High School. She has served as Department Chair for the Fine and Performing Arts Department for 15 years. In collaboration with the Herndon High School Theatre Department, she has served as Musical Director for over 30 productions at school and in the community. Ms. Van Slyke has been a FCPS teacher of the year nominee, the Herndon Optimist award recipient and received the Wolf Trap Scholarship for Fine Arts Teachers. Her choirs have performed at the White House and the VMEA State Conference.
Ms. Van Slyke is a graduate of Ithaca College with a degree in music education and vocal performance. She also holds a master’s degree in music education from Shenandoah Conservatory and is currently pursuing a post graduate Certification in Administration from Longwood University.
